This is one of those repairs where the part costs a couple of bucks whereas the labor costs a couple of hundred!

Is It Worth It? - A Decision Making Guide

If you have a backup of your data, it is not economically worth your money to repair the power jack, as it takes our technicians a couple of hours of work to disassemble, repair and then reassemble the laptop computer.

We get a lot of phone calls asking for estimates to replace the power-jack. We regret that unless we look at it, we are unable to give you an accurate estimate, and we charge a diagnosis fee to provide the estimate.

Please consider the following points to see if it is worthwhile to repair or retire your notebook.

• Does your computer run fine on battery? If not, you may have additional problems than just the power jack.
• Do you have important data or important software installed on the computer that you do not have backup disks. If you do not have backup or reinstallation disks, it might be worth fixing.
• The age of the machine. If it is more than 4 years old, it might be time for replacement.
